What do pandas like to eat?

Pandas like to eat bamboo grass and bamboo shoots. And they really love the new bamboo sprouts that come out in the spring. In a zoo pandas will also eat apples and sweet corn. In their wild home pandas will eat small birds, snakes and river fish.
There are only about 1000 pandas living in the wild in the interior of China. The panda is a protected species, and there are surveys underway on its ecology and living habits.
It is now believed that pandas do not hibernate. They appear instead to continue to feed all winter, eating right on through most of the night. They live alone except during the mating season.
